The big dog is a chicken, Monday Mischief
Yes, it’s true. The big dog is a chicken. What does this mean? It means that I, the smallest dog, am braver than Torrey, the big dog. Yep….there’s a story there. We went walking the other day and walked past a big piece of property we have gone past several times before. The people who live there have some emu’s. Yes, emu’s, as in they really are from New Zealand. Usually the emu’s are way up in the field and not close to the road. But, the other day they were right next to the road along the fence.
At first, Torrey and I wanted to get close to them. Mom saw them first, however, and made us keep our distance. Mostly because she wanted a picture. Then they started making this weird noise, like someone pounding a small drum. Who knew they made that weird sound? Not us.
That was it for Torrey, she wanted out of there so fast. Me, I still wanted a closer look. I kinda growled and huffed, and pulled on the leash to get closer. Meanwhile, Torrey was pulling on the leash the other way, to get out of there.
It’s a good thing we aren’t two huge dogs, or mom would have been split in two. Mom got all the pictures she wanted, and we turned around and walked back. Torrey was still pulling hard, even way down the road. Mom had to stop and make her sit, and calm down, so we could walk normally.
I would have loved to get my paws on those big birds. So who’s the brave dog…..and who’s a big hairy chicken?
Roxy you sure are brave!

I’m afraid that I would be like Torrey and Cody would be like you Roxy. I do NOT enjoy geese and this leads me to think that I wouldn’t enjoy an Emu either! Frankly, Mom said she had never seen an Emu til you posted it, she knew the name from crossword puzzles (BOL) but had never seen one and thinks they are kinda scary too, so cut Torrey some slack! Barks and licks and love, Dakota

I think your pals Ollie and Reggie would go after them and chase them like their goat, Lucy who tries to head butt them but has no horns. I won’t ride my horse by those Emus. Sugar would jump clear across the road with me if she heard that noice. I’m glad you were with Torrey and set a good example of bravery Roxy.
It reminds me of the first time Sampson saw a deer, he growled at.
Delilah would just charge up to it.

There’s an agility trial I attend that is on a farm. They have two emus very near where the agility courses are. We park right next to the pen. Jimmy goes ballistic and would like to make a snack of them (well, rally a full blown meal!), and Wilson pays them no mind whatsoever. And I unfortunately know from first hand experience that emu pee STINKS! Jimmy had a good roll in some and it was awful!

I think I’m with Torrey on this one – but then, I’ve always been a little afraid of birds since my Grandpa’s rooter chased me when I was a kid.

Gosh, I can imagine my dog would react in much the same way. She has kind of a thing for birds and I don’t want to know what she would try with birds bigger than her! It’s a good thing there was a fence in the way!

Brave Roxy! You’re little. But you’re mighty! But I don’t know about chicken. Torrey is smart, too. Emus are wonky creatures!

Hey Roxy, Hey Torrey, Jet here.
Roxy, proud of you for standing your ground with those big avians… however, Torrey has her strengths too…
You know, I’m a big manly man yet I have lots of things I’m scared of too… My Nana always said big things come in small packages! (she’s really short!)
