Bike riding with dogs
Yep, we went for a bike ride last Sunday. Mom bought a trailer for Torrey and a basket for me a few months ago. We haven’t had the chance to really use them until now. I loved the basket. I was on the handlebar of moms bike and I had great view and a comfy seat. Mom did a lot of research before she picked this basket, as she wanted one that was safe and durable. My basket is made by the Solvit company.
We really like this particular basket because it has a bracket that keeps it stable on the bike, plus it’s sturdy on the bottom. It also has three nice pockets for storing stuff, and a sun shade attachment if I get too hot.
Torrey got her own chariot, well mom called it a trailer, but I thought it looked like a chariot. She was pretty unsure about the whole thing. It’s been said before, Torrey is a creature of habit. Anything new and different is not her idea of fun, until she gets used to the idea. When we first got the trailer mom rode around the block with her, but that was about it. This bike ride was 10 miles, one way out to Moose.
On the way there we kept the top zipped so she wouldn’t be tempted to jump out. Mom and dad figures out that if dad rode behind mom, who was pulling the trailer, Torrey would relax more. But if dad went in front and Torrey couldn’t see him, she got all nervous and stuff.
We stopped at the visitor center in Moose, but surprise surprise, no dogs allowed. So we hung around outside while dad visited with an artist friend of his who was doing a demo inside.
We then left and went to Dornans, just up the road, and stopped for lunch. They had an outside patio so Torrey and I got to be there too. I guess the food was really good, I wouldn’t know though.
When we left to ride back home, mom thought she would try and leave the top open and buckle Torrey in. That way she could poke her head out and see what was going on. That lasted about 1 minute, even though she was buckled in, Torrey kept trying to climb out. After they got everything and everybody settled we headed home. It was a really nice fun way to spend the day.
I think the more Torrey goes in the trailer, the more she will like it. Personally, I had a blast.
I really like the trailer!! Torrey is so similar to Dakota (who also is a creature of habit and doesn’t like change or new things)…don’t know if he would like that trailer, but I am thinking for Cody that might be a super cool idea!! Love it!

Hi Roxy. Love your new bike basket. Please ask your mom if she would be kind enough to send me a link to this particular model. I bought a different kind of bike basket for my dog and it’s not very stable/safe. I tried to find the one above but can’t find this model. Thanks!
Hi Roxy, You look so great in your basket. We carry this dog basket on our website. Could I use the picture of you in the basket to put on the dog bicycle page. I would love that. You are a gorgeous dog. And Laura if you click on my name it will take you straight to the catalog page of the item you are looking for.
I love pulling Chester and Gretel in our trailer! They aren’t huge fans at this point either. I hope to try and get them more used to it this summer. We did that small bike tour down the Oregon coast but I would love to do a huge tour with them…the weiner wagon. Ha, ha.

Roxy you look so sweet in the basket. Could I use your picture on our website. We carry this particular model of bicycle carriers. Along with the Chariot that Torrey got to ride in. http://www.dawsondogs.com/catalog/item/8508407/9349137.htm this is the address of this particular bicycle basket. Laura if you want to visit we would love to order one for you.
I like the trailer. I wonder if they make one large enough for me!

We’ve had a Doggy Ride trailer for years. Honey’s not crazy about it so we started working with a trainer. He suggested we work on having her jump in the back of the trailer and out the front so she feels confident she can leave it she wants to. We’re working our way up to her being comfortable for a long ride.
Since we don’t have a car any more, the Doggy Ride is her only hope for trips to the dog park or swims at the lake.
Hope you had a great time camping!
